Summer Tour Report
Good day to you all!
Just a little report on how the tour has been going so far.
After spending a while getting out of new York, we were on our way to the summer fest in milwaukee. 16 hours in the van later we where there.
The festival was a good laugh and we got to watch the 3rd of July fireworks, which seemed to be a big deal down there. It was a pretty big display that lasted for about an hour, and 1.5 million people tuned up to watch.
Next we were off to Chicago. I love chicago with a deep passion. We always have such a great time when we are there and always come away with more mates.
We played a great session at the Chicago music exchange, which you'll soon be able to check out on their site. It's a wicked shop with tons of great vintage and new gear. All the guys working there were true gentlemen and really know what they are talking about. If you're in Chicago, I highly recommend popping in.
A few monsoons later we arrived at Lincoln hall. This was the first time we got to meet our touring buddies, the fantastic Everest. A wonderful bunch of blokes that have been putting on a wicked show every night. If you haven't heard these boys, yet you must check them out. We also have a truly splenid singer-songwriter opening up all the dates for us called Aaron Lee Tasjan, who we are very privileged to have playing guitar with us also.
The show was great! As always, the crowed was amazing and gave us all a smashing reception. Thanks to everyone that came down, and we look forward to seeing you really soon.
Next stop was the basement in Colombus, OH. This was our 4th or 5th time playing, and as always, it was a great night. We got to meet up with a few familiar faces, and Petter and I were interviewed by two 11 year old girls who had been talking to bands for the Bunbury Festival in Cincinnati. They were a little shy but did a great job!
On to Pontiac, MI. After some more quality time in the van that was slowly beginning to die and some more high quality road grub, we arrived at The Crofoot. This was our first show in Pontiac, so it's always nice to play new places. There was a relatively small turnout, but thanks to you who did come, it was a great night of hanging out!
Everyone else from the town was downstairs, waving glow sticks and blowing whistles (yes, a rave was goning on in the club below). It looked like a Happy Monday's show in the early 90s. Classic!
Next stop was Allston/Boston, MA. This show was at a venue called the Brighton Music Hall, which is a great little venue. Aaron started the night with a great set and got a really warm reception from the crowd as always. Everest took the stage next and just blew it apart! They are a truly great live band. It's always such a pleasure to take the stage after a couple of great acts. We played a set of old and new tunes, and it was great to see the lot who have been following us for a while getting it on with the new songs.
Oh home for one night in Brooklyn! After not doing many shows but feeling like we had just driven around the world, we arrived back home to New York to do a live stream session. We had done this once before and it is great fun. You play acoustic songs and in-between answer questions that are being emailed in by people watching on the Internet. Thanks to everyone who sent in a question or just watched!
After a wonderful night at home it was on to Jonny Brendas in Philly -- a fantastic little venue with a great sound system. I love Philly! Everyone is always so cool and really gives everyone playing a fantastic reception. Thank you Nicky for taking such great care of us! After the show, we went back to an old friend of our tour manager's house for more booze and fun. Thanks so much Will! You are a true geezer.
On to Washington D.C. to play the Rock N Roll Hotel -- a fantastic venue in a fantastic city! This was a great night all around, just as it was last time. Everyone played there socks off, and the crowed was wicked. I find it's always the same in D.C. I can't wait to get to spend some proper time there one day.
After our night in D.C., it was back to Philly for an early start at the WXPN World Cafe show. We had played a show here before, and I must say, they're working with a very nice venue. Live radio is always a little nerve racking, since if something goes wrong, there's not much you can do about it. Luckily, it was only my bass amp dying and Petter breaking a string 10 seconds in to the first song that went wrong....Cheers to all at World Cafe! We had a blast!
Off to Cincinnati for the Bunbury Music Festival. It's always nice to play an outdoor festival when you have been doing a bunch of very hot club shows. The weather was a little weird at first, but it cleared up nicely once the music started.
We had a great crowed when we played, and we got to see a couple of friends after. It was the first time this festival had been put on, and to be honest, they did a great job. Thanks to everyone at the Bunbury festival! Would love to come back again next year.
Next stop Nashville, TN. A couple of nights off at a friends house was just what the doctor ordered. I got to have a couple of nights out of the van and hang out with a dear friend. Magic!
Before the show we were invited to do an instore at a great little record shop called Grimeys. We played a 5 song acoustic set and had quite a few people come down. It was really nice and reminded me of the instores we used to have when I was working at tower records back in London. If you're in Nashville, I would highly recommend checking this record store out.
The show in Nashville was at a venue called the Hight Watt. Definitely a fun night and a great crowd! Thanks for the love ladies and gentlemen of Nashville! We hope to see you again very soon.
Next stop St.Louis, MO. After finally getting there due to our van not doing very well, we all packed into a little live room at KDHX radio and bashed out 4 tracks. The session waas a good time and everyone at the station was very kind and really looked after us, which always means a great deal. They also have great coffee!
The venue we played in St. Louis was called Off Broadway -- a really nice venue with a good size stage. It's always nice when I'm not wearing the ride symbol as an earring. A great crowed, and again, Aaron and the Everest boys were on fire. Seems like the show keeps getting better and better. We had a couple of dear old friends there. Cheers to everyone who came out! Thanks St. Louis, Steve & Nick! You are true gentlemen of the highest order and truly a part of the AC family.
Next day was off to Denver, or maybe not. We set off the morning after St. Louis towards Denver, but got about 50 miles out when the van decided it would go no further. Luck for us, we were right by an Auto Zone, so we managed to crawl in to there and get the van checked.
When the mechanic came back, he told us there was an electrical problem, and the alternater needed to be replaced -- a process that would take until around 4 the next day. This meant we would not be making the Denver show, which we were REALLY GUTTED about, as we truly love Denver and have been shown so much love every time we go there.
To all of you who were coming to see us there, I am truly sorry for not being able to make the show and promise we will be coming there soon. We'll put on a smasher for you! We love ya!!
Off to San Diego I hope.
Thanks again to everyone! The adventure continues....
Cheers!
